Sesily Dearborn

Introduced initially as the series’ main protagonist, Sesily Dearborn is a young woman in her teenage years. While much of the world outside of her home, the Dearborn Estate, is unknown to her, Sesily had taken quite a few self-defense courses and thus is in both good shape and adept at using a sword to protect herself.

Known for her dazzling green eyes, Sesily Dearborn, the soft-featured blonde heroine of the series, was subject to quite an turbulent life prior to the opening of the series. She never knew her father, and her mother passed away when she was a child. Due to this, she was left in the care of a wealthy land owner named Albert Dearborn, who, in the series’ opening, is her current guardian, along with her temptress stepmother Sasha Famini.

Sesily, throughout the novel, proves to be the linking force between all of the characters and their current dilemma. Standing at the center, Sesily developed more relationships with the other characters than perhaps anyone. While most people just want to make sure the young protagonist is safe from harms way, many of the cast have grown to respect her in their own way.

While the focus of Beneath the Light is not directly on Sesily, but rather distributed evenly among the main characters, Sesily still plays an integral role in the progression of the story. But many questions loom onward in the book. Who is Sesily, exactly, and who were her parents? What exactly is the reason that a young girl such as her was caught up in this, and what can she possibly do to prevent anything from happening?

Sasha Famini

Regarded as Sesily’s seductress stepmother, Sasha Famini earned her bad reputation when she acquired a strange, esoteric object called ‘the box,’ as nobody is sure what it is or what’s inside. Nonetheless, using the box’s power, Sasha is able to command fairly powerful forces, such as the ability to possess certain souls and bend them to her will. Of course, with power like that, there’s bound to be some consequences, especially now that her step daughter has found the box.

Laura Knightly

A cheeky maid with an adoring heart, Laura is Sesily’s best friend, as well as her only family figure. Laura was found by Sesily a few years before Beneath the Light, where she was currently homeless. Sesily, in her kindness, offered her a place to stay and work, and thus Laura became one of the many workers at the Dearborn Estate.

While she is at first hesitant to disobey her employer, Albert Dearborn, her lust for finding the truth involved her in a series of events that would carry both her and Sesily on a journey of mystery and fear. Her first adversary is Sasha Famini, but who knows what danger looms around the corner for the simple child of two famous entrepreneurs. Perhaps Laura Knightly may even find something else on her journey other than answers…love.

Nash Prince

Ever-quiet and watchful, Nash is primarily a soldier, charged with the protection and domestic security of Eres Village, where the story takes place. He was at first a guard in Trall, but his post was later moved to the nearby town. He is dragged into the conflict after violence breaks out in Eres due to Sasha’s tinkering, and is thus compelled to join Laura and Sesily, not wanting to let two young woman off by themselves. With a strong duty to protect the two, Nash Prince joins them.

Matthias Blackheart.

Matthias, the shaggy haired reporter with the dark brown eyes, is always looking for a chance to rack up fame. Since he is the descendant of the line of Blackhearts, Matthias feels that he has to one day do something that would inspire the world, just as all of his forefathers had. The Blackheart family name has long been associated with greatness and prosperity. That’s quite the name to live up to, for an arrogant reporter who’s about to take on the biggest case of his life.

Sylvena

Assertive, powerful, and mysterious, Sylvena is a blonde haired, green eyed beauty of the forest. Armed with a bow, Sylvena can be the most deadly adversary ever seen. Since she was quite younger, and she’s still young herself, Sylvena has been an expert sharpshooter and ranger. Her talents have made her known around the world, simply as the Legendary Sylvena.

Another interesting point about her is her heritage, and her namesake itself. But as for what it could mean is unknown, as is her hatred for Reapers and her search for a rare and elusive jewel…

Novara

Novara’s amazing talents as a sorceress are not anything to be overlooked. Her proficiency, to be precise, is with the magic of Ice. With the ability to whip up frozen magic with a thought, Novara’s formidability in battle is a force to be reckoned with. What could the black haired sorceress want, though?

Xerin

Introduced just as Novara’s colleague, Xerin is also a powerful magician. His specialty lies in Earth Magic, and he mainly uses it for defense, rather than offense. Always wearing a ratty brown robe, Xerin seems rather dejected and upset. What could be bothering him…

The Reapers

The Reapers are terrifying heathens, for lack of a better term. On occasion, when a person dies, their soul moves to a separate place, where it becomes vulnerable. Such souls are able to be summoned back to life, donning a black robe and the title Reaper. While Reaper’s are ultimately loyal to their masters, they have no trouble twisting their words and working on their own agenda. In fact, as long as their master doesn’t directly summon them, they have free reign to do whatever they want. Reaper’s are powerful, and most of them have some sort of specialty that makes them stand out from normal humans, but as to what that is remains a mystery until you encounter that particular one. No two are the same.

The Witches of the Coven

Nothing but mysterious, the Witches operate in seclusion atop a high mountain peak. They are able to control demons, powerful forces from the netherworld, to do their bidding. Without the demons, though, they still are tough adversaries. Every one of the Witches is a sorceress, and they all possess powerful magic, some more than others. Their ultimate goal is to create the perfect sorceress who can rule the world, but their dream is far off from reality.

North

Known as North, this magician leads a small band bent on reviving the forces of darkness. The extent of his power, his ambitions, and his authority are all but speculation.
